Naked Clay

An exercise in invisibility and absence. Wax was poured inside of a recently made 'modern' clay vase which acted as a mould. The clay was 'stripped' and destroyed to reveal the wax negative. The revealed object appears as if it was dug up from the earth. Its appearance evokes both age and the passing of time. The resulting hourglass image conjures up the history of clay; it reminds us not only of an ancient vessel but of the female votive figures of the past. It questions the preciousness and importance of objects and our attachment to these objects.
