BUTTERFLY KALEIDOSCOPE

This artwork commemorates the 35th anniversary of the Northern Alberta International Children's Festival of the Arts held yearly in St. Albert. The butterfly is the symbol of the festival. In this design, butterflies and a flower are transformed. Both forms have been synthesized to create a playful sculpture. Cutouts cast a pattern of light and shadows which appear to 'move' with the movement of the sun through the seasons. Whimsical and playful in concept, and incorporating colours from the Children's festival, the artwork acts as a wayfinder along a bike path on the approach to the Founders Walk (Phase 11) Gardens.

Size: 6 foot diameter

Materials: Laser cut steel, polyurethane coating.

Location: Founders Walk, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada.

Commissioned by the City of St. Albert.
